Lost Podcast (AAC): Ep. 1.38 “Live Together, Die Alone”
P.S. This episode is a long one, almost 1 hour and 40 min. So enjoy π
HAHA! FIRST!
IN your FACE! WOO-HOO!
Ummm okay….. o_O
Great Podcast as always. Major props on condensing a two hour show into a one hour recap. What an AWESOME season finale! EMF for the win! So can I get more Gold Flaky Stars for my EM Field Theories? LOL! Actually, the season finale pretty much blew my theory on the crash out of the water, but the EM Field on the island is deffinitly what is causing some of the weird stuff on the island. I can’t wait to hear who won the finale prediction contest. There were a lot of good theories that entered. I’m looking forward to see what you guys have planned for the hiatus. What will you guys do now that the season is over? Hmmmm….. more contests comes to mind. Oh and by the way, any word as to when the next Vid cast will be?
couple of things…
they were called “hostiles” not “hellians” by Desmond
Also, the bearing that Michael and Walt were to follow to be rescued was 325 degrees, not 235. At least I’m pretty sure….
oh, and the letters were TO Penny, not FROM Penny. BTW, Penny was short for Penelope (as they said on the show, but you didn’t mention it)
i haven’t had my coffee this early in the morning yet… so right now i must scream…
OH. MY. GOD!
hasselhoff cried during Idol! wait, no, that’s not what i was oh my godding about…
haven’t listened to your ‘cast yet – that’s my treat whilst at work… but holy hot diggity that was an awesome finale in my opinion…
ah, Pen. ah, Elizabeth. who’s David to everyone else? is Elizabeth reeeeally Libby? my head is swimming – i just needed to post here and catch my breath from those 2 hours (okay, it’s been over for like 9 hours, but still)
okay, off to get some coffee, jack & jay to start my day.
loved the eppy – too bad it’s gonna be a long summer till I get to see Lost again. I also wondered if “Penny” or “Pen” has anything to do with Persephone, not in name but, like they are working towards bringing down Hanso. Maybe she’s looking for Desmond and knows what Hanso did on the island, just can’t find it.
Did anyone watch Jimmy Kimmel? Hugh Macintyre was supposed to be on it.
great eppe, and great podcast guys! jsut finished listening to it…
OK. I haven’t listened to the podcast yet. Saving that for the commute home. Question for you guys… when Mr. Widmore (sp?) showed Desmond the boxes in the car, one of the boxes had an emblem on it. I couldn;t make out if it was a Dharma emblem or something similar to it. Did anyone catch that? If so, what was it? Have we seen that logo before?
Maybe they kept Kate, Jack, and Sawyer because they have 4 toes on each foot. Has anyone looked at their feet?
Incredible finale. My husband is mad I didn’t enter the season finale contest because I had a lot right….I didn’t think I did though. I can’t wait to hear the podcast (it’s my treat while my son is napping). And I still think there’s an underwater hatch somewhere, I thought for sure they were going to go to it from that pier. And now who in the hell is Radzinsky (sp)?? Can’t wait to find that one out π
First off.. wow what an episode. I’m upset there’s no one around me I can talk to about it, so I settle for message boards and podcasts.
A few things I was thinking about:
1. How did the hatch initially go into Lockdown, with Locke and Fake Henry? I mean… it seems like the only way to do it was manually, so who put it in lockdown mode?
2. The big thing… let’s assume Fake Henry knew about the hatch… WHY would he tell Locke that he didnt push the button and the nothing happened? He must have guessed that they didn’t have the failsafe key, so why would he WANT another incident? In the New York Times, one of the producers said if they didn’t have the failsafe, it would have probably sucked up the entire earth into itself.
Seems like a bad thing to me.
3. Why drop some of those names of the others? Zeke is now Tom, and Ms. Klugh is now Bea. Guess we’ll be seeing more of them as the seasons continue.
And wow, Fake Henry being in charge of the others camp? Didn’t see that coming.
Can’t wait to get home to listen to your podacst. And hour and fourty minutes? Yeah, I can’t wait. Nice Job.
Great episode!!! I would have ended it on the bags going over thier heads on the dock instead of the crazy stuff with Pen. Is Elizabeth Libby? I think that Elizabeth works for Widmore and gave Desmond the boat so that he would get stuck on the island.
I guess I stand alone, but I was disappointed in the finale. Thought that after seeing some truly incredible episodes this season, they could have done better. I think it is interresting how they tied Widmore and Desmond like they tied Sun and Jin. I do not think that Elisabeth is Libby, I think they are twins. Could the David (Husband to Elisabeth) be David Gale?
still waiting for it to be posted or put up on iTunes. bet its a great show. Also I cannot wait to hear Jacks Crackpot theory.
libby and elizabeth are most likely the same, as libby is a nickname for elizabeth.
Desmond’s full name, given in the prison on his discharge, is Desmond David Hume. David Hume was a philosopher in the 1700s. Influenced by another philosopher called John Locke.
David Hume challenged the belief in cause and effect, saying that the following of one event by another is perceived, we don’t perceve any necessary conjoining between the events. that’s an impression that we get. We cannot actually say that one event caused another.
So, we have Desmond David Hume, named after a philosopher that challenged cause and effect, supposing that not pressing the button (the cause) resulted in the effect of downing Oceanic 815.
By naming the character Devid Hume, are the writers telling us that while we might infer a connection, none really exists?
Love the podcast!
wow! I liked it! The only bad part was when it was near the end, I knew it was gonna be over soon and it’s gonna be long time until it’s on again : ( Jay and Jack, “here we are now, entertain us” (please!)
(sorry, I got like two hours sleep last night)
Great season finale,
what was the song at the very end of the podcast?
In reference to the statue I found this posted on fark.com by poster radioriot.

The book is Headlong Hall by Thomas Love Peacock
“The place is quite a wilderness,” said Squire Headlong: “for, during the latter part of my father’s life, while I was finishing my education, he troubled himself about nothing but the cellar, and suffered everything else to go to rack and ruin. A mere wilderness, as you see, even now in December; but in summer a complete nursery of briers, a forest of thistles, a plantation of nettles, without any livestock but goats, that have eaten up all the bark of the trees. Here you see is the pedestal of a statue, with only half a leg and four toes remaining : there were many here once.”
rizinski! wait. we don’t know “Henry Gale’s” REAL name… maybe he’s the renegade “missing” Rizinski! (the “splicer”)
Anyone else get the Colossus of Rhodes out of seeing that foot?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colossus_of_Rhodes
First thing that came to my mind.
Nice episode, I like your Lost podcast the best out of all the Lost podcast out in the ether…
And what was up with the Lion King song in the end? I had to dig up my OST for it and find the track (…To Die For) beautiful and sad at the same time.
Anyways, keep it up and I hope to hear lost and lots of podcast this summer even if it is only you two bickering. π
ah crap. the brown stain. right. forget my rizinski theory (forgot about that.)
or WAS he the brown stain…. dun duh dunnnnn!
I wanted a dramatic score for the season finale podcast, and it was between “…To Die For”, and Mozarts “Requiem” π
I wonder if the disabling of the magnetic field in the hatch will interfere with the healing conditions of Locke’s legs and Rose’s cancer.
I also was completely let down.
Most of the “breakthrough” or answers did not have that WOW factor that I was hoping for.
Out of all of the episodes this season this one really was nothing much.
They certainly did not pull me in and get me amped for next season, like when they took Walt last season.
SB,
Here is a link to that complete story by Thomas Love Peacock:
http://www.thomaslovepeacock.net/Headlong.html
JACK,
the music in this episode was VERY reminisant of Jerry Goldsmith’s score to Planet of the Apes. This was the most evident during the scene where Desmond was tailing Kelvin along the beach. I have a feeling that Michael Giacchino saw the that the landscape in that scene looked a lot like the opening 45min. of Planet of the Apes! Good Call!
Did you guys not pay attention to the letter from Penny? At the end of the letter, it said something about “you’ll always have her” which I assume is about another woman and that woman is perhaps the woman in the picture.
YESSSS! just gone up on the itunes feed! WOOHOO! I am in ol’ Ireland and no finale here til’ August! Can’t wait to find out what happened in finale!
*dances round room with glee!*
Hey, new to this podcast. I’m stuck here at work and I’m dying for something to listen to, but alas, your podcast is in aac and I’m not allowed to have itunes installed. Anyway you could post it as an mp3, too? Thanks!
Love your Podcast.
1. New Drinking Game – re-watch the episode and everytime Desmond says “Brother”, take a shot of tequila.
2. Not to beat a dead horse – There is a scene in a movie starring Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts where Mel is in the back seat of a cop car and hits the cop in the back of the head. The cop pretends to pass out and Mel picks up that he didn’t knock him out. The cop admits that he was faking and Mel hits him again…of course, knocking him out.
The movie was “Conspiracy Theory. ”
3. This is not the only Island. Michael and Walt will be “rescued” but sent to the next phase of their interrogation.
4. Charlie is pure evil…..what’s up with him not telling Claire or anyone what happened? He just strolls back on the scene like nothing happened. He also pulls some serious puppet strings that sets up John Locke and Desmond.
Great season. Wednesday is now back to regular ole Hump Day : (
“Hugh McIntyre” from the Hanso Foundation — interviewed by Jimmy Kimmel (who is clearly working from a script). Very odd. He says they discontinued funding for the Dharma Initiative in ’87. The rest seemed mostly fluff.
Great episode – great podcast. So many new questions. I am so glad that Super Kate is not conspiring with the Others she told all about the fake beard in the Medical Hatch..
Jack – I loved your idea that the statue that Sayid et al see is a FOOT HATCH…hilarious!
What is that Hurley Bird, anyway?
Why was Charlie being so odd when he got back to the beach camp after the hatch went KABOOM?
If the Others are the GOOD GUYS…who are the BAD GUYS?
Okay – the season is over…time to dig into the Lost Experience, finish reading “Bad Twin”, pre-order the Season 2 DVDS and McFarlane Toys LOST Action Figures and hunker down for the summer. I’m so glad we’re all Lost together.
I saw the Hugh McIntyre interview too. The fact that Dharma was discontinued in 1987 seemed like the only new information we received. So who is dropping food and supplies if Dharma no longer exists?
plus, charlie acted all weird and freaky when he told locke about desmond. maybe thanks to the “vaccine” that’s turning him into an “other”?
I found it kind of interesting at the end where Jack, Kate and Sawyer, all with their “Daddy Issues,” are watching Michael leave with Walt. Even though it was wrong to set them up, he was willing to do anything for his son.
Hey guys,
I know you appreciate the people calling in to your podcast. My question would be is why do you need to play each one even if they do not add anything at all other than they are weak and shaking from a television show? You guys are funny and I enjoy how you talk about the show but neve take it too seriously. However, wow some of the calls you play are painful to listen to.
That may be an unpopular view but Im only being honest.
I read on the Fuselage that Lost lost 40% of its viewership since the opening episode this season….whoah.
Chappy
The language being spoken at the end of the episode was Portuguese, not Russian, just to let you guys know π
Ok Seriously HELP. What movie was the music at the end of the podcast in? I am having a major Brain Fart. It’s at the tip of my tounge trying to put the music into the correct movie.
Just letting you know that the Arctic watchers were speaking Portuguese. Portuguese from Brazil. I lived in Brazil 12 years (my first 12 years, even though I was born in Norway) and I recognize the language anywhere.
Hugh was lying most likely about Dharma ending in 1987. And remember kiddies Miss Widmore said if you have the money and the determination…you can find anybody.
err… whatsup with the Lion King music at the end?
[…] Also, Jay and Jack pointed out some of the similarities the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the seven wonders of the world, in their latest podcast. Posted by Colin on May 25th, 2006 Tags: Season-2, Mythology, Lost […]
Jay and Jack…my podcasting heroes…
I just listened to this podcast…again and I just wanted to say that you two have come a long way since your first episode! Your timing, your commentary, your banter, Jay’s straight guy to Jack’s wise-cracker routine is really very funny. You should be very proud of the great stuff you both do! You two get along so well (or at least during the podcast you do) – I couldn’t imagine Jay ever getting grounded by Daddio-Jack!
“Jay…clean up your room or you’re grounded!” shouts Daddio-Jack as he enters Jay’s room.
“What?” replies Jay in his signature high-pitched, shrill voice, “Forget it, Jackie. I’m way too bitter to clean my room, plus I’m busy, I have a life, unlike you!”
“Uhh..okay!!” says Daddio-Jack with a big grin on his face and nary a hair on his head.
“Tally for me!” screeched Jay
“What about some gold, flaky stars for me?” asks Jack
“Heeheehee” giggles Jay
“Ha Ha Ha” laughs Jack
Suddenly a creak from the floorboard is heard by both and in the doorway of the room stands Mrs.G. She is not amused.
“You are both grounded! No LOST today! ” She says with a stare sterner than the fake Henry Gale
Jack, head bowed, limps to his room. Jay turns to his CD player and hits play on the ‘Lost’ Soundtrack, Locke’s theme. Tears begin streaming down his cheeks. His mother closes the door as she leaves. Jay pounds on his desk
“I’ve done everything you wanted me to do. So why did you do this…to me?!”
Suddenly the power light of his sleeping Mac turns on….
End scene
You guys are truly the best!

how do i put these on my i pod ?? this is the first pod cast i have ever dwn loaded?? Plus what about some other lost theory websights
How come nobody cared about a plane that dropped supplies. Shouldn’t they try to signal the plane dropping supplies??
Theory about the statue – Maybe it’s not the foot of a man.
I was reminded of the sphynx… but I could be wrong.
cauwel3…
Search for the Lost Podcast Network in iTunes. You can subscribe to that and get a bunch of podcasts on one channel. But beware, once you listen to Jay and Jack you won’t want to listen to any another Lost podcast again!! They are truly the best!! (Unless Ryan and Jen come back, but thats another story…)
Kevin B—that was…truly…the funniest thing I’ve read all day. Indeed, if I had the power of giving out gold, flakey stars–I would reward you with thousands!
When I saw ‘the foot’ I thought it might be the remains of a statue of Apollo. In the Pearl Station Orientation weren’t they told to take the Apollo Ferry? Maybe I misheard that…
